About The Artist

Dona Gelsinger

From the day she was able to grasp a pencil, Dona has had a love for art. She would sit for hours studying her Grandfather as he honed his craft at the easel, painting rugged landscapes in oil. Dona went on to study art at Cal State Long Beach and following graduation, began a career as freelance artist. Her first major commission was to paint near life-size paintings of the Stations of the Cross for St. Denis Catholic Church in Diamond Bar, CA where they hang to this day.

In the late 90s, Dona was propelled into the spotlight with her Heaven’s Little Angels series, which led to hundreds of licensed products and over $100 million in retail sales. She has since gone on to work with many of the top brands in the world including Home Shopping Network, NCAA Football, Realtree, Pillow Pet, Kleenex and Mariah Carey.

Dona and her family reside in the picturesque Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon where the region’s natural beauty and abundant wildlife continue to inspire new works of art by Dona Gelsinger.

Reviews for Heaven's Angels

  • Heaven’s Angels is a twofold treat. First, it is the fruit of contemplation on the truth about angels, as Saint Thomas Aquinas expresses it in his Summa Theologica. Magalski’s breakdown of the Saint’s complex content, from Scripture and Tradition, makes truth about angels easily accessible to children. This is important in a time when angels are a source of fascination for many, though often not in ways aligned with biblical truth.

Second, Magalski’s book comes with the beautiful artwork of Dona Gelsinger, whose lovely angels perhaps give the book a special appeal to young women. These lovely angels appear as beautiful and finely dressed young women. This is also important in a time when princesses captivate the minds of so many young women in America (e.g., Disney’s Frozen). This book thus offers to them the angels and saints as key figures in life and role models.

To return to the text: it is remarkably versatile. It could be easily paired with other art or placed in other formats that would assist it in appealing to young men and women of other places and cultures (and to the adults who read to them!)

  • Heaven's Angels is a beautiful walk through the creation of God's messengers, as they are given to guide and protect mankind. Based on Scripture and theological doctrine, an explanation of the choirs of angels unfolds through the written words of author Carrie Magalski, who was inspired by the artwork of Dona Gelsinger. Together they have created a treasure to be shared with adults and children; as this book will readily become an heirloom to be passed down through generations. RJN
  •  The combination of Carrie’s writing with Dona’s artwork creates a truly beautiful book. Carrie explains the nine choirs of angels in a way that is informative, yet easy to understand. By telling the story of angels through the eyes of Archangel Uriel and by writing with striking descriptions, Carrie is also able to inspire readers’ imagination while seamlessly explaining the missions of the angelic choirs and honoring the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas. The book is a wonderful reminder that angels are always around to comfort and protect us. I will one day share this book with my children and grandchildren to teach them about heaven’s angels. • "Heaven's Angels" by Carrie Magalski and DonnaGelsinger is a wonderful introduction to the existence, position, andresponsibilities of those heavenly beings we call angels. The theology of St.Thomas Aquinas permeates the pages which are gilded with beautifulillustrations by Donna Gelsinger and interesting facts brought to light byCarrie Magalski. This book is simple enough to be read out loud to the delightof small children, yet informative in a way that even a college student oftheology can gain insight from it's authors. In a world where thecharacterization of angels has often been diminished to bells ringing on treesthat announce angels earning their wings, "Heaven's Angels" revealsthe striking depth of information we can actually know and study about thesegifts from God Almighty. Kudos to Magalski and Gelsinger for bringing a finemix of art and information in this excellent little book. Michael A. Barone, Director of Evangelization, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Powell, Ohio
